LWBC Improving Lives Community
Turning patient feedback into practical action for people living with and beyond cancer
The LWBC Improving Lives Community is a collaborative learning network designed to help organisations turn cancer patient feedback and other available data into practical action. Using evidence derived from national datasets, patient-reported outcomes and structured intelligence modelling, members gain access to discussion documents, benchmarking materials and shared learning resources that support improvements in Living With and Beyond Cancer services. The Community exists to promote collaboration, not comparison, helping organisations learn from one another and improve outcomes for people affected by cancer
Community Membership Principles
The LWBC Improving Lives Community has been established to support organisations and individuals who are genuinely committed to improving outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer. The Community is intended to be a collaborative learning environment where members can access intelligence, share experiences, discuss challenges and learn from successful approaches adopted elsewhere.
Membership is offered free of charge to registered charities, patient support organisations, academic partners and other not-for-profit groups that contribute expertise, support services or advocacy for people affected by cancer and related long-term conditions. These organisations play a vital role in improving patient outcomes and are important contributors to the shared learning and improvement objectives of the Community.
NHS organisations are invited to join through an annual organisational membership contribution. This modest fee is not intended to generate profit, but rather to help support the ongoing development, administration and maintenance of the Community and its resources. More importantly, experience has shown that genuine engagement is more likely when organisations make a formal commitment to participation. Membership therefore represents a commitment not only to access information, but also to actively engage with shared learning, discussion and improvement activities.
The Community provides access to a range of intelligence resources, discussion documents, thematic reports, benchmarking materials and improvement insights that have been developed from publicly available data through extensive analysis, modelling and interpretation. While the underlying datasets may be publicly available, the resulting outputs are intended to support informed discussion and improvement and can be misunderstood if viewed without appropriate context. Members therefore agree that Community materials are used responsibly within their own organisations and for improvement purposes only.
The overall aim is simple: to create a trusted environment where organisations can move beyond simply observing patient feedback and instead work together to translate evidence into practical action that improves the lives of people living with and beyond cancer.
Improvement Charter
Members agree that all materials are intended to support collaborative service improvement, shared learning and better outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer. Potential Industry Partners
Many Pharmaceutical, MedTech and Digital Health organisations already work alongside NHS organisations to support education, service redesign, pathway development, research and innovation. The Community provides an opportunity to align these activities more closely with the needs and priorities identified by patients and frontline services.
Industry Participation Principles
The LWBC Improving Lives Community has been established primarily as a collaborative improvement network for NHS organisations, charities, patient groups and academic partners committed to improving outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer. However, the Community also recognises that Pharmaceutical, MedTech and Digital Health organisations can play an important role in supporting innovation, education, research and service improvement initiatives across the NHS.
Industry organisations may therefore be invited to participate as Industry Partners under a separate membership category with clearly defined governance arrangements. The purpose of Industry Partner membership is to encourage constructive collaboration, shared learning and a better understanding of the challenges facing people living with and beyond cancer. Participation enables industry partners to contribute expertise, innovation and experience, while learning from the real-world challenges identified through patient feedback, intelligence analysis and stakeholder discussion.
The Community is not intended to provide a platform for product promotion, marketing activity or commercial influence. Industry Partners are invited to participate because of the expertise, resources and support they may be able to contribute to improving patient outcomes. Access to Community resources is provided solely to support shared learning and service improvement and not for commercial exploitation.
To maintain independence and credibility, the priorities, outputs and direction of the Community will continue to be determined by NHS organisations, charities, patient representatives and academic contributors. Industry participation is intended to complement these activities, not direct them. This principle helps ensure that the Community remains focused on its primary objective: improving the lives of people living with and beyond cancer through collaboration, evidence-based discussion and practical action.
By bringing together NHS organisations, charities, patients, academics and responsible industry partners, the Community aims to create a trusted environment where different perspectives and expertise can be combined to address some of the most important challenges facing cancer survivorship, personalised care, frailty, prevention, early diagnosis and long-term support.
